1. it ends with us (sobbing thinking about this)

“Life is a funny thing. We only get so many years to live it, so we have to do everything we can to make sure those years are as full as they can be. We shouldn't waste time on things that might happen someday, or maybe even never.”

2. full tilt/all in (heartbreaking/heartwarming duology)

“We might not have months or years, but we have moments. Thousands upon thousands of them. Let’s take each moment, seize it and wring it dry.”

3. the book thief (one of my all time favourites)

“I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race - that rarely do I even simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant...I AM HAUNTED BY HUMANS.”

4. all the bright places (always a rec because it deserves all the hype it gets)

“You are all the colors in one, at full brightness.”

5. bright side (do epic. one of the best books i've ever read. )

“I’m not saying you shouldn’t pursue dreams and goals. Just don’t forsake the present for the unknowns of the future. A lot of happiness is bypassed, overlooked, postponed to a time years from now that may never come. Don’t bide your time and miss out on this moment for a tomorrow with no guarantee.”

6. hopeless (the twists were both crazy and heartbreaking)

“The sky is always beautiful. Even when it's dark or rainy or cloudy, it's still beautiful to look at. It's my favourite thing because I know if I ever get lost or lonely or scared, I just have to look up and it'll be there no matter what...and I know it'll always be beautiful.”

7. a thousand boy kisses (my heart burst)

“Because nothing so perfect can last an eternity, can it? Like shooting stars. We see the usual stars above us every single night. Most people take them for granted, even forget they are there. But if a person sees a shooting star, they remember that moment forever, they even make a wish at its presence.”

8. under the sycamore tree (really moving)

“It doesn’t matter what battle you’re fighting, it only matters that you’re willing to fight.”

9. ugly love (defines the word heartbreak)

“Love isn't always pretty. Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it'll eventually be something different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you're back to square one, and you lost your heart somewhere along the way.”

10. song of achilles (defines soul shattering)

“He is half of my soul, as the poets say.”

11. five feet apart (the book is always better than the movie)

“Everyone in this world is breathing borrowed air.”

12. they both die at the end (i think the title is self explanatory)

“You may be born into a family, but you walk into friendships. Some you’ll discover you should put behind you. Others are worth every risk.”

13. the fault in our stars (a classic. i cry every. single. time.)

“Without pain, how could we know joy?' This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”

14. a wish for us (hits u right in the feels)

“When the threat of death hung over you, you realized that your true dreams weren’t so grand. And they all came down to one thing—love. Material possessions and idealistic goals faded away like a dying star. Love was what remained. Life’s purpose was to love.”

15. the last letter (makes u rethink life)

“Sometimes bad things happen. And there’s no blame to be placed. You can’t reason with the universe, no matter how sound your logic is … We are imperfect people made that way by an imperfect world, and we don’t always get a say in what shapes us.”

16. ari and dante discover the secrets of the universe (made me smile so much. less of a heartbreak than the others but soul shattering nonetheless)

"The problem with my life was that it was someone else's idea."

17. love and other words (didn't expect the end. wow)

“Favorite word?” he whispers.

I don’t even hesitate: “You.”
